Obama announces the death of Osama.
Was drinking at Gym Bar last night when the news come
out that Osama bin Laden was dead. The bartenders
turned a few TVs to CNN and passed out shots after President Barack
Obama’s announcement. When the speech ended, there was clapping and
cheering. The walk home was quiet. No honking of horns or shouts (all the
celebrating was at Times Square and Ground Zero). One gentleman, who
walked passed, did ask if I heard the news. “It’s a great day,” he said
when I nodded yes. Want to shy away from chest thumping. Instead want to
emphasize this part of the president’s speech. “And yet we know that the
worst images are those that were unseen to the world. The empty seat at
the dinner table. Children who were forced to grow up without their mother
or their father. Parents who would never know the feeling of their child’s
embrace. Nearly 3,000 citizens taken from us, leaving a gaping hole in our
hearts.”

- Couldn’t help it. Political partisanship is out
of bounds for today, but the birthers, and those who encourage them,
are not the honest opposition. This photo is for those clowns.

- Trump’s feelings are hurt. Donald Trump has no
problem dropping the f-bomb in a Las Vegas speech, or making up lies
about President Obama’s grandparents. However, if you make fun of the
Trumpster he cries foul. The “reality star” pouted during the White House Correspondents’
Dinner, and whined the following day how people were mean to him. Strange
coming from a guy who insists he can bring the whole world under his heel.
The typical behavior of a bully.

- Log Cabin Republicans hold conference. Dallas was filled with
conservative gays and lesbians this weekend. Log Cabin Republicans held a convention this
weekend. David Woods, the lead attorney in the group’s case against “Don’t
Ask, Don’t Tell, and former Congressman Bob Barr were two of the featured
speakers. There was a brief dust up about a Log Cabin member being assaulted
in the Hilton where the conference was being held. However, the victim
declined to press charges because “the suspect apologized in person and
seemed to be sincere” (as the victim told the Dallas Voice).

- Hernandez honored in Philadelphia. Daniel Hernandez, the intern whose quick
thinking was instrumental in saving the life of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords,
was given a heroism award by the Equality Forum. It’s been said before and
deserves repeating. This young man needs a job , and corner office, at a
gay rights organization.
