A couple hundred angry New Yorkers rallied Thursday in the bitter cold near the United Nations’ Uganda House to call for an end to the homophobia that killed gay activist David Kato.

The speakers called for Americans to pressure Rick Warren,  Scott Lively and other evangelical leaders to return to Uganda and tell Ugandan leaders that “they lied. They lied when they said that American gays were sending money to Uganda to recruit children in the schools.”

After the rousing calls of the speakers, those attending walked a long block to Uganda House, where they chanted: “Stop the Violence, stop the hate – do your job, investigate!” The cry echoed off the buildings; people peeked out of the Uganda House windows but then stepped quickly away.

Uganda receives $500 million in U.S. aid annually. Pressure on our Congressional representatives and State Department matters.

On Monday, February 7, a Memorial Service will be held for David Kato at Riverside Church (490 Riverside Dr., New York, NY).
